Free 15 point site check

A free website audit: fifteen checks, and what 1,089 sites got wrong.

Send a web address and the website audit comes back in writing within two working days. It says what is holding the site back, in the order worth fixing. No call needed, nothing to install.

Free, and yours to keep. Use it to brief whoever you hire, even if that is not me.

The fifteen points

Every one is answerable from a web address alone. Six come from auditing 1,089 business websites. Open any point to see what I look for.

15 checks · 4 questions

1–4 Does it work at all

Does it load, every time

The most basic check, and the one that fails most brutally. Fifty six of the sites I checked did not respond at all. A site that is down when a buyer arrives has no other problems worth discussing.

How fast the content appears

Measured on a mid range Android over 4G, not on a fast laptop. Under two seconds is the standard I hold my own builds to. Just over half the sites I audited responded slowly.

Layout on real screens

Checked across the sizes people actually use, from a small phone to a wide desktop. Anything cut off, overflowing, or scrolling sideways. Broken layouts on a phone lose the visitor before a word is read.

Usable with a thumb

Buttons and links big enough to hit, text big enough to read without pinching, and enough contrast to be legible outdoors. Small targets cost you enquiries quietly.

5–9 Can Google read it

Titles and descriptions

Whether every page that matters has a title and a meta description, and whether they say something a person would click. A quarter of the sites I audited had no description at all.

Headings that make sense

One clear H1 per page, and a heading order that describes the page rather than decorating it. It is a small thing that keeps turning out to correlate with everything else.

Structured data

Whether it is there, whether it is valid, and whether it describes what the business actually is. Twenty seven per cent of the sites I audited had none at all, which is a free advantage left on the table.

Secure all the way through

HTTPS is not the end of it. Insecure resources loading on a secure page still break the padlock and still get flagged, and it is usually a leftover nobody noticed.

The right pages indexed

Robots rules, canonicals, and the noindex tag somebody left on after launch. I have found live commercial pages hidden from Google by a single line nobody remembered writing.

10–13 Is it earning

Visible for what you sell

Not your own company name, which you will rank for regardless. The searches that mean money, and whether you are anywhere near them today.

Which searches you could win

An honest read of what you are up against. Some searches are worth pursuing and some are not worth your budget, and saying which is more useful than a list of keywords.

The pages that sell, reachable

How the site links to itself, and whether the pages that earn are one click from the front or buried four deep behind a menu nobody opens.

Old addresses still landing

After a redesign or a move, old URLs often die quietly and take their rankings with them. This is the check that most often finds something already lost.

14–15 Will it cause you trouble

Tracking that waits for consent

Watched on the network rather than taken from a plugin's description of itself. This is the part regulators act on, and the part most banners get wrong by default. I also check whether your analytics is recording anything at all, because plenty are not.

Legal pages that hold up

Privacy, cookies, and an Impressum where you trade. Present is not the same as correct: they have to match what the site actually does and actually loads.

On a decent site most of these pass, and the report says so rather than inventing work.

How it works

Three steps, and only the first one needs anything from you.

1. You send a web address

By email or WhatsApp. That is genuinely all I need to start. If you want me to look at a particular page, or you already suspect what is wrong, say so and I will start there.

2. I check the site against the list

Partly measured with tools, partly read by me. The measuring finds what is broken. The reading works out whether it matters to your business, which no tool can tell you.

3. The report lands in your inbox

Within two working days. Every point answered, every fix ranked by what it is worth in enquiries. If you have questions afterwards, ask them by email or WhatsApp, free as well.

Send the address, get the report. Two working days, free, no call required first.

What it does not cover

Worth saying plainly, because a free check that claims to find everything is a sales pitch rather than a check.

Anything behind a login

I see what a visitor sees. Your checkout as a paying customer, your admin, your server configuration and your hosting bill are all outside it.

Your own numbers

I do not have your analytics or your Search Console, so I can tell you what is wrong with the site but not what your traffic has been doing. Give me access and that changes, but the free check does not ask for it.

Whether your words persuade

I will say if the page fails to explain what you do, which is common. Judging whether your offer beats your competitors' is a longer piece of work, and it is what the paid audit is for.

Fair questions

Why is it free?

Because it is the cheapest honest way for you to find out whether I think clearly, and for me to find out whether I can help. Some people take the report, fix things themselves and never speak to me again. That is a perfectly good outcome.

Do I have to get on a call?

No. The report arrives in writing and stands on its own. If you want to talk it through, ask by email or WhatsApp, and you can decide after you have read it.

Will you find fifteen problems?

Almost certainly not, and it would be a bad sign if I claimed to. Fifteen points get checked. On a decent site most of them pass, and the report says so instead of inventing work.

What if the answer is that nothing is wrong?

Then that is what the report says, and I will tell you where I think your money would do more good than a website project. I would rather say that than sell you a rebuild you do not need.

What happens to my details?

They are used to reply to you and nothing else. No list, no newsletter, no passing anything on. The privacy policy says the same in more detail.

What if I want more than the check?

The audit and 90 day plan is 290 euro and comes off whatever you buy next, so if you go further it has cost you nothing. Every other price is published on the same page.
